Support for Students Preparing for Entrance Examinations in Areas Affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake

The Tree of Hope Project Executive Committee (Secretariat: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Toshiharu Konno; hereinafter "Tree of Hope Project" ), KDDI Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Takashi Tanaka; hereinafter "KDDI" ), Castalia Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Satoshi Yamawaki; hereinafter "Castalia" ), Shingakukai Educational Corporation (Secretariat: Nagano-shi, Nagano; Chairman: Masao Ichikawa; hereinafter "Shingakukai" ) and manavee.com (Developer: Taketsugu Hanafusa) will provide learning support, free of charge, to students preparing for high school and university entrance examinations who were affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in Ishinomaki city, Miyagi prefecture, from November 29, 2011.
This effort will be implemented as part of the Recovery Project of Human Coexistence promoted by Ishinomaki Senshu University, with the support of the Ishinomaki Board of Education, from November 29, 2011, until March 2012. Examination courses for students preparing for high school and university entrance examinations and mock examinations, including marking and notification of results, for students preparing for high school entrance examinations will be held in classrooms at Ishinomaki Senshu University. Online learning services will be provided via tablet terminals using video lesson content, and an environment in which students can study effectively by themselves will be constructed.
The Tree of Hope Project will provide learning support for students preparing for entrance examinations through the planning and implementation of this effort and the dispatch of teachers. Shingakukai will provide mock examinations and video lesson content, while Castalia and manavee.com will provide video lecture content for students preparing for university entrance examinations. KDDI will provide tablet terminals for viewing video content and support online learning for students through the construction of a Wi-Fi environment.
When the system is in place, learning support will be extended to other disaster areas in cooperation with local governments.

This project was established chiefly by people involved in education in Tokyo in response to the Great East Japan Earthquake. The organization aims to bring schooling to the disaster areas and provide continued support for the children's future.
