"goocus", a smartphone application for handy social learning experiences, now equipped with a reviewing function that encourages establishment of knowledge

Based on a unique forgetting curve, keywords searched on goocus are push-notified three days later, enabling the review of the learning experience
Castalia Co. Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo Japan / CEO: Satoshi Yamawaki, hereinafter "Castalia") is pleased to announce the release of Ver.1.3 of "goocus", a smartphone-based Wikipedia reader, now equipped with a reviewing function based on a unique forgetting curve, as well as a profiling function. The reviewing function encourages the establishment of knowledge by push-notifying the keywords the user viewed and learned on goocus three days ago. In addition, the profiling function allows others to find out more easily what kind of interests and knowledge the user has.

goocus is a Wikipedia reader that accumulates the words searched and learned on Wikipedia as pieces of "knowledge", and share them with other people. When you wish to find out about a certain keyword, you can refer to Wikipedia as well as the search history of other users whom you follow on goocus. It is also corresponds with the location information; you can use it as a detailed tour guide of the places you visit on business or sightseeing trips, by searching on things related to the location.
goocus is available free of charge on AppStore and Google Play (formerly known as Android Market).
Functions newly added and reformed on goocus Ver.1.3

1.Reviewing function
Keywords viewed and learned with goocus will be automatically push-notified. The notification will be done automatically three days after the user viewed the keyword. This three-day interval draws on a forgetting curve developed by Castalia, made from the result of the measurement of the goocus users' forgetting rate.
[Note] Castalia's forgetting curve differs from that of Ebbinghaus, probably due to the fact that whereas Ebbinghaus' curve is based on meaningless syllables, goocus' learning is a systematic knowledge that has meanings.
2.Profiling function
The user's account is now enhanced with a profile page. Upon following on other users on goocus, the profile allows to find out what the user is interested in and what kind of information he/she is familiar with. Along with the learning history, it helps the user to find someone who is helpful for him/her to learn socially.
3.Integration of "Learned" and "Note"
We integrated the "Learned" (that leaves a history that the user has viewed the keyword) and "Note" (that allows the user to add unique information and comments) functions, which used to be separate up to Ver.1.2. This simplifies manipulation as well as the sharing of learning experiences.
Castalia considers Wikipedia searches as daily and micro "learning experiences". goocus is intended to transform a user's act of "searching on Wikipedia" to a social learning experience.
