“TECH & BOOKS FOR KIDS”, A SECTION DEDICATED TO PROGRAMMING EDUCATION, CO-ORGANIZED AT LIBRO HIGASHI-TOTSUKA FOR A LIMITED TIME
Nippon Shuppan Hanbai Inc. (headquarters: Tokyo, Japan / CEO: Akira Hirabayashi, abbreviation: “Nippan”), Castalia Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Tokyo, Japan / CEO: Satoshi Yamawaki), and Libro Co., Ltd (headquarters: Tokyo, Japan / CEO: Motohiro Okubo) co-organize “TECH & BOOKS FOR KIDS”, a retail/event section at a bookstore dedicated to programming education for elementary and junior high school students, at Libro’s Higashi-Totsuka store for a limited time: Tuesday, August 1 thru Thurday, August 31.
“TECH & BOOKS FOR KIDS” features a programming workshop targeting elementary school students in which they will learn the basics of programming while having fun with Ozobot, a micro-robot specialized for programming education. It will also feature a seminar under the theme “What is Programming Education?” which offers a lecture for parents with regards to programming education that will become mandatory from FY2020.
Along with the workshop and the seminar, the section will feature books and intellectual toys suitable for programming education for elementary and junior high school students. Books are categorized in accordance with the purposes, such as “10 books to understand what programming education is” and “10 books to read the future that your children are going to live in” for adults, and “10 books to make use of software and tools” for children. As for intellectual toys, puzzles and games that may lead to the nurturing of programmer’s way of thinking are introduced alongside programming devices.
By running a section at a bookstore that is a stronghold of knowledge rooted in the local community, we aim to make the section a helpful solution to the parents who have concerns about their children’s programming education. Selection of books and intellectual toys, as well as the operation of the workshop and seminar are done by Nippan and Libro, while Castalia designs and produces the overall section.
