CASTALIA TAKES PART IN “WELCO LAB FOR GLOBAL HEALTH” AIMING FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND POPULARIZATION OF PERSONAL HEALTH RECORD APP SPECIALIZED FOR PREGNANCY AND CHILDBIRTH IN TANZANIA

Building a smartphone-based information network for expectant mothers to lower high death rate of expectant and nursing mothers

Castalia has taken part in “WELCO Lab for Global Health”, an initiative that promotes the cooperation of Japanese companies in the global health field.

As an effort for global health, Castalia is developing “Taarifa za Mama” (Mom’s record), a personal health record app dedicated to pregnancy and childbirth in Tanzania.  In the country where the high maternal mortality has been a problem, we aim to lower the number of maternal deaths and increase positive maternal experiences though the implementation and popularization of the app that improves the work of midwives and promotes an educational approach to expectant mothers as well as peer support.

This project was launched as the next step in midwifery education, based on the issues that emerged at the feasibility study of mobile learning for midwives in Tanzania using Goocus, a mobile learning platform developed and operated by Castalia.

Castalia presents the details of this project as commitment on the WELCO Lab website.

[WELCO Lab]
WELCO Lab was established in October 2020 to accelerate the activities of Japanese companies in the global health field.  It is an initiative that aims to find solutions to various health issues in low and mid-income countries, such as infections, nutritional problems, and lifestyles diseases to name a few, through activities by a wide array of Japanese companies utilizing their advantages.  Also, by consolidating participating companies’ new efforts to a single output of information, the initiative also aims to foster social momentum in the said field.  Various participants, whose innovative technologies go beyond the healthcare sector, present their novel efforts for the solution of global health issues as “commitments” (declarations of new projects and solutions).
