GOOCUS ADOPTED FOR “The 20th International Students Summit on Food, Agriculture and the Environment” HOSTED BY TOKYO UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE AS A PLATFORM FOR PRESENTATIONS BY STUDENTS FROM 25 COUNTRIES

Taking advantage of Goocus’ global compatibility for college students from around the world to learn together on “food, agriculture, and the environment”, defying the obstacles of time and communication environment differences

Tokyo University of Agriculture (aka Tokyo NODAI, President: Fumio Eguchi, Ph.D.) has adopted Goocus, a mobile leaning platform developed by Castalia, for the forthcoming “The 20th International Students Summit on Food, Agriculture and the Environment” (ISS) as a tool for the participating students to make presentations of their learning gains.

The ISS is an international event launched in 2001 by Tokyo University of Agriculture (aka Tokyo NODAI), as a place where student and academic delegates are invited from around the world to discuss on various issues on food, agriculture, and the environment and make presentations of their day-to-day learning gains.

At the 19th ISS (2019)
The 20th ISS, which was postponed for one year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, will now be held online with 58 students from 27 universities from 25 countries.  Goocus was adopted as the online platform of the summit as a place for presentations and discussions, for offering its user interface in nine languages, for having been actually used in developing countries in Africa and other regions, and for being capable of providing services overseas.

Under ordinary circumstances, the ISS is a program mainly of face-to-face discussions, where college students gather in Tokyo from approximately 30 countries.  This year, students will make presentations and comment on others’ on Goocus, which will supplement the live discussion sessions of the ISS.

As students will participate from various regions, time zones, and Internet access environments, it will be challenging to conduct the ISS solely through live discussions.  In light of this, Tokyo NODAI will draw on the advantage of the on-demand nature of Goocus to facilitate the event.

The 20th International Students Summit on Food, Agriculture and the Environment is scheduled to take place in September 2021.
