Advancing Research and Pilot Initiatives in Maternal and Child Health and Digital Health
African Mothers Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “AM”; Headquarters: Shibaura, Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Kimiyoshi Yokogawa) is pleased to announce that it has completed the registration of its Representative Office in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania, as of March 23, 2026.
This Representative Office has been established as a base for research and pilot initiatives in the field of digital maternal and child health in Tanzania. It will function as a non-commercial platform dedicated to research, studies, and institutional collaboration, and will not engage in any revenue-generating activities.
Background and Purpose
AM has been continuously conducting research and pilot projects in the fields of maternal and child health and digital health in Tanzania. Currently, in collaboration with Shionogi & Co., Ltd., AM is implementing a behavior change program aimed at preventing diarrheal diseases among mothers with infants and young children, delivered through a smartphone application.
In addition, during this fiscal year, AM will utilize the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)’s “FY2023 Supplementary Budget: Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Project Subsidy” to further validate the business model of this initiative. At the same time, AM will advance joint research activities with Professor Yoko Shimpuku of the School of Health Sciences, Hiroshima University, in collaboration with Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS).
With the expansion of these activities, the need for strengthened local operations, as well as structured engagement with the Ministry of Health and medical institutions in Tanzania, has significantly increased. In order to carry out these activities in a consistent and compliant manner, AM has established a formal organizational presence through the registration of this Representative Office.

- Coordination and collaboration with local medical institutions and public sector organizations
- Promotion of joint research with academic institutions
- Validation and localization of digital maternal and child health tools and related solutions
All activities are strictly non-commercial in nature, and no revenue-generating operations will be conducted within Tanzania.
Future Outlook
Through this Representative Office, AM will progressively expand its research and pilot initiatives in Tanzania. Looking ahead, AM also aims to explore future business development opportunities based on regulatory developments and partnerships in the country.
Furthermore, AM intends to leverage the knowledge and insights gained from these initiatives to expand similar efforts to other African countries, thereby contributing to the advancement of maternal and child health through digital technologies.
